Artist Statement (Submitted to the Fair)

Mandala Series

I got the idea for this artwork because I’ve always liked mandalas, and I realized I could make them in many different styles, in this case from different cultures. I make my art because it makes me calm and happy... or it helps me to grow as an artist. I also enjoyed learning about the distinctive art styles from different cultures. I made the mandalas on painting paper with different materials, including watercolor, India ink, acrylic paint, and construction crayons. If I did this again, I think I would let myself make more mistakes, and accept that I couldn’t do all the details I wanted or make them much bigger. I’m most proud of the different styles I explored and how I pushed myself through that.
